the best of 2011 wedding photography contest

2011 has been a beautiful year in many ways not the least of which has found me laughing (and crying!) as the couples below celebrated their love and joined their lives together. These couples are the ones that allow me in, they grant me trust and then open up to show their real selves. So as the year comes to a close I say thank you to each and every one of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You inspire me and help me toward being a better photographer and a better husband.

As a way to give back and to celebrate these couples I'm doing a good old fashion contest of the voting kind.

Here is how it will work:

  1. You pick your favorite couple from the photos below (you can click their photo to see more from their wedding).
  2. You vote on the bottom of this page in either of two comments section. Let me know which couple you choose (and be creative – extra points may be awarded!)
  3. The couple with the most votes wins a 24×16 canvas to hang in their house! They get to pick the photo that's printed on it too.
  4. The winning couple thanks you profusely for the rest of their life, constantly trying to find ways to repay you for your vote (Ok, I can't promise this but I'm sure they would be very grateful!)

The Rules:

  • Only vote per person, so make it count!
  • Voting is open to anyone – so spread the work on share on facebook, Twitter, email, etc!
  • Anyone having trouble voting below can email:
  • Voting ends Dec 27th at midnight CST.
The voting is closed and the winners are: Couple #13 – Stephanie+Daniel!

Thank you everyone for your votes! Almost 300 votes this year! I wish you all a very Happy New Year and a wonderful 2012!

  1. Couple #2 – Aimee and Nate! It’s the least I can do for all the things Aimee left me when she got married.

  2. 11, 6, & 17

11, is the most unique. love how it’s framed within the window & trees, & the layering of the buidlings.

  3. #2 is the best couple I know! They deserve the portrait of the two of them because pretty soon there will be three!

  4. I vote for #12. Not only is it a beautiful picture with the wildflowers, but they are the most awesome couple and were a long time coming!

  5. I vote for couple #1. the photos are awesome and the subjects aren’t too bad either! Good luck, I hope you win!

  6. Steve and Rachel because they were patient and waited a long time to meet each other and then decide to spend the rest of their live together. It is so romantic and cherishing to let the love you have for each other flourish and grow as theirs has. As my daughter has said, “Like a flower we all have a beautiful potential” Steve and Rachel’s wedding was suppose to occur outside but rain was needed that day. as flowers also need rain to flourish. Their marriage has been a beautiful event which still has great potential to come.

  7. #3 Aaron and Amanda are the clear winners. Love the couple, the car, and the wedding cookies, in that order.

Does this vote count that many times?

  9. Couple #9-Michael and Erin- were by far the most adorable couple. Their wedding was the most fun ever. They chose bold, and bright colors. And everything was a perfect blend of their cultures and traditions; the clothes, the food, even the cake. The bride was a vision with her perfect figure in her gorgeous white gown, and her cool blue suede pumps, and the groom had the crowd in his hand as he donned a fedora, and crooned like Ray Charles as he serenaded his beautiful bride. And then it all went Bollywood, and the dance floor was jammed for 5 hours! Beautiful wedding, beautiful pictures, beautiful couple.

  10. Couple #2—Nate and Aimee. They should win because they are terrific AND they are having a baby AND they are so happy together AND their wining will be a special treat for their family AND it will mean agreat deal to them AND it will mean alot to others in the family AND you always want to keep a pregnant lady happy. Just my thoughts.
    God bless.

  11. Picture #3 of Amanda & Aaron is the clear choice, in my opinion! Beautiful day, beautiful setting, beautiful couple and beautifully captured!

  12. #12 – Rachel and Steve! Picture is beautiful despite the rain!! It actually makes it more interesting!

  13. my vote is for # 13 Stephanie & Daniel a great couple and awsome wedding photos. Letthe Lord guide you both throughout your life together

  14. My vote is for Couple #2.
So the picture is beautiful but nothing in comparision to the beauty of what’s inside their hearts not only for one another but others as well.

  15. There is no doubt all the other couples are FABULOUS, too…
but i do have to say that Chad and Kari went thru so much the year before their wedding….and they were very sensitive to the Lord’s will for their lives after post-poning the wedding day….and then they so lovingly planned a picnic for their loved ones with such servant hearts….and truly made it possible for our entire family to have a very Joyous, Memory Making Celebration….so how can i not say they ARE Number 1 !!!!!

  16. I vote for couple #13 (Stephanie and Daniel), and, no, it’s not because I’m the mother of the bride…OK, well, maybe it factors in a little…

  17. I chose #13 because Stephanie told me I better. On fear of my health and it’s pretty good, add another click under the #13 column.

  18. I vote for #13 Stephanie & Daniel. They are such a cute couple, and their Christmas photo card was amazing, too.

  19. Couple #1.
I love this picture and they are the ones who should win cause they are the cutest couple. I think you know they have to win…look at them!!!!ADORABLE!!!!

  20. We vote for couple #1 Chad and Kari. Love this shot. It is past & present, beauty & movement it is whimsy & depth all wrapped up in one single moment

  21. I see that there are plenty of couples to choose from, but I must vote for couple no.3 Amanda and Aaron.Because I know that they are both very talented and will go far in life.

  22. AUNT Rachel is a perfect match for my uncle Steve. Their wedding was so beautiful and their photo, #12 deserves to win. Plus Rachel is an AWESOME dancer and a great addition to the family!

  23. #12
I am the mother of the groom, and was so excited to welcome Rachel into the family. She is a wonderful, intelligent and fun person and I am so happy that my son as found his soul mate.

  24. I vote for #12. Rachel and Steve are perfect for each other, and I can see their love for each other growing day by day.

  25. Number 11 For Sure …Most CREATIVE by far…the other ones r great but 11 looks like a professional at his finest. If this was a competition for a million bux number 11 is a MILLIONARE!!!

  26. Without question, couple 13. There are too many reasons, so a list is the only appropriate avenue to get across my pont:

    1. The scattered pictures of a dressed up dog are both adorable, but equally off-the-wall. You know if he could talk, nothing but profanities would be heard throughout the wedding in a Scoobie-Doo voice.
    2. The wedding takes place in South Carolina. The sheer stubbornness of the state should give it immediate rise to the top. I mean come’on, they still are the only state that remains succeeded from the Union. Their hatred has proven the test of time and if there is anything that should be the undertone for a wedding, it is commitment to the cause.
    3. The grooms name is Daniel Brown. Just think of how many international bestsellers the “other Dan Brown” has written. It has to be impossible for him to ever say that name within the confines of a Barnes and Noble or Starbucks without being flooded with obnoxious “are you related” or “that’s so funny” comments. That stress alone is worth a reward.
    4. The best man has an amazing beard. Not only is it red and full, but it only accentuates his pure manliness. To describe him as dreamy is an understatement and as far as I know, no word in the English language exists to fully and accurately represent him….maybe sextabuliciousmantasticdemigod is the only phrasing that comes to mind. In history, we remember the great impact of Redbeard. Not only did he establish the Turkish presence in Northern Africa for four centuries, but Turkey named two subs after him as well. So by the transitive property, all men with red beards not only are awesome themselves, but they bring greatness to those around them as well.

  27. I am voting for Kelly and Dave #8. The picture says it all. It is how a bride and groom should look at each other on their wedding day.

  28. My vote is for 13 Stephanie and Daniel
loved the people walking in the stream, puppy and the guitarist. What beautiful pics of a wonderful outside ceremony

  29. Well I’ll give my vote to Daniel and Stephanie, #13. They’re a wonderful couple and being a veteran myself, I appreciate the time they spent in the Navy serving our country. Congratulations and good luck in the contest.

  30. I vote for my outstanding son, 1/2 of couple thirteen. Together they are the best person I know.

  31. I vote for Daniel and Stephanie, couple #13. I’ve known Stephanie for most of my life, 13 years, and just met Daniel 1 year ago, and think they’re an amazing couple, they have so much in common and get along so naturally it’s easy to assume they’ve been together for years already! They’re positive, supportive, and go out of their way to help other people; they deserve to be recognized, good luck with this contest.

  32. I vote for COUPLE NUMBER ONE, Andy!

(And, in case you needed any flattery, the composition is great and I like how the red of the word ‘Towing’ balances the door.)

  33. The amount thought and details that went into this day set the stage for spectacular pictures truly capturing the style and personalities of Kelly + Dave. Everyone who was a part of and attended the wedding wore smiles that mirrored Kelly’s + Dave’s – and the smiles never faded! Plus the reception venue (Lakefront Brewery) was the perfect place for a Milwaukee wedding!
