I’ve known Ginger for a few years now (mostly online), as we run in some of the same photography circles. Since we’ve only met for about 15 minutes once at a conference (Ginger was gracious enough to remind me of this while forgiving my forgetfulness…) I was excited when she invited me to hop islands to Kaua’i to shoot a Beloved Session for her and her husband Aaron. To get to hang out with them while they were escaping the winter cold of Minnesota and exploring the beauty that is the islands was a treat and an honor.
Ginger, a fellow Beloved Photographer, knew what to expect from the session but her husband Aaron was just thrown into it (really, he wasn’t – it was a great chance for experience with Ginger what she provides for other couples – a chance to focus on each other and explore their connection).
One of my favorite parts was that we started up at the Kalalau Valley near a lookout that started with Pu’u (which is the Hawaiian word for “Beloved”). We all found that a fitting way to start.
Thanks for having me over to Kaua’i you two!
Malina+Ahn hail from Montreal and escaped the cold (along with many of us Northerners) and came out to Hawai’i. It was their first time and so they tried to make the most of the time here. I was touched when they wanted one of those things to be a Beloved session. We headed up to Makapu’u to capture their love for each other and their love of the ocean + mountains.
(And can I just say that Malina’s blue hair just rocks!)
